Canadian telecommunications operator Rogers Communications has completed an 8 million CAD upgrade to its 5G network at the Rogers Centre in Toronto, aimed at enhancing the fan experience during Taylor Swift's highly anticipated The Eras Tour. The project, which involved 6,000 hours of planning and an additional 10,000 hours of equipment installation, is expected to significantly improve mobile connectivity, ensuring concertgoers can enjoy seamless streaming, social media sharing, and other data-heavy activities during the event.
Rogers said it has installed the latest technology to deliver three times more 5G network capacity throughout the stadium, equivalent to what would traditionally be covered by 33 towers in downtown Toronto.
"With faster speeds, lower latency and more capacity, 5G technology is critical for today’s concert experiences as large numbers of fans livestream and share the moment in real-time," Rogers said.
"As the presenting sponsor of Taylor Swift - The Eras Tour, we've upgraded our 5G network to get ready for fans at Rogers Centre," noted the Chief Technology Officer at Rogers.
Technical teams lifted and installed antennas near the top of Rogers Centre's 86-meter-high roof to provide fans with floor seats the same 5G network experience as those in stadium seats for the first time, the company explained.
Rogers noted that since it began upgrades in the summer, network performance has already improved. Fans on Rogers' 5G network at the Pink concert in August experienced download speeds twice as fast and upload speeds eight times faster than those at the Diljit Dosanjh performance in July, where 5.4 TB of data was used.
