National Oil Corporation partners with telecom giants to develop smart oil cities in Libya

The National Oil Corporation (NOC) of Libya announced on Wednesday the signing of cooperation agreements with leading telecom companies Al-Madar, Libyana, and Hatif Libya, under the initiative “Toward Smart Oil Cities”. These agreements are designed to upgrade the digital infrastructure in Libya’s oil-rich cities, enhancing the operational efficiency and sustainability of the oil sector.

According to an NOC statement on Facebook, this strategic move leverages the latest communications and information technology to boost the management and control of oil resources, ensuring the continuity and viability of this vital sector.

NOC Board Member Hussein Safar commented on the significance of these agreements, describing them as a qualitative leap in integrating the oil and communications sectors. “Digital transformation is key to developing the sector and enhancing its standing both locally and internationally,” said Safar. He further explained that implementing modern technology is expected to reduce operating costs and increase productivity.

The telecom partners have expressed their readiness to provide the necessary technical and logistical support to ensure the successful implementation of the “Smart Oil Cities” project. They emphasized that the advanced communications technology would significantly improve the ability to instantly control and analyze crucial big data related to oil production.
