Pakistan climbs 14 spots in UN E-Government Development Index 2024

Pakistan has made significant strides in the United Nations E-Government Development Index (EGDI) 2024, rising 14 positions to rank 136th globally, up from 150th in 2022. This leap marks Pakistan’s first entry into the “High EGDI category,” reflecting notable advancements in its digital government capabilities.

The country’s EGDI score improved to 0.5095 from 0.42380 in the previous assessment. Although Pakistan still lags behind global leaders like Denmark and regional leaders such as Singapore and the Maldives, its progress highlights substantial improvements in e-governance.

Pakistan also saw a significant rise in the E-Participation Index, climbing to 88th place with a score of 0.49 percent from 106th place at 0.36 in 2022. In comparison, neighboring India is ranked 97th with an EGDI score of 0.66 and an E-Participation Index of 0.65750.

The Minister of State for IT and Telecom, Shaza Fatima Khawaja, expressed her gratitude towards the Prime Minister for his support in enhancing e-governance initiatives over the past two years. She also credited the National Information Technology Board (NITB) and the Ministry of IT and Telecom (MoITT) for their pivotal roles in advancing Pakistan’s digital governance agenda.
