According to recent data from the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA), Pakistan’s cellular subscriber base grew to 192.924 million by the end of July 2024, marking an increase of 394,000 from June. The figures also show a rise in 3G and 4G users, from 134.78 million at the end of June to 136.312 million by July’s close.
The penetration of Next Generation Mobile Services (NGMS) saw a modest rise from 55.61% in June to 56.15% in July, while the cellular teledensity in the country remained steady at 79%.
Among major telecom operators, Jazz saw a decrease in 3G subscribers from 3.041 million in June to 2.897 million in July, though their 4G user base grew from 47.295 million to 47.993 million. Zong’s 3G subscribers slightly declined to 1.955 million, but its 4G users increased to 37.153 million. Telenor experienced a drop in 3G users to 1.551 million, with a rise in 4G subscribers to 24.929 million. Ufone’s 3G subscribers decreased to 2.197 million, but its 4G users grew to 15.975 million.
The PTA also addressed 99% of the 19,188 complaints received in July 2024 against various telecom entities, including cellular mobile operators (CMOs), Pakistan Telecommunication Company Limited (PTCL), long-distance international (LDI) operators, wireless local loop (WLL) operators, and internet service providers (ISPs). Notably, cellular mobile subscribers are a significant portion of the overall telecom subscriber base, leading to 18,585 complaints against CMOs, with 99.1% resolved effectively.
Complaints resolved against individual operators include 99.8% of 6,783 for Jazz, 99.1% of 3,198 for Telenor, 99.4% of 6,362 for Zong, and 95.8% of 2,211 for Ufone. Basic telephony saw 96.9% of 162 complaints addressed, and ISPs had a resolution rate of 96.9% for 426 complaints.
