Telekom Slovenije has recorded a steady increase in data usage on its mobile network over the years, owing to continuous modernisation and upgrades to its network infrastructure, in particular its 5G network. The operator observed that data usage has increased by approximately 33% each year. In 2023, Telekom Slovenije invested over 22 million euros in its mobile network, with investments set to more than double this year.
According to the operator, this approach has helped in strengthening its competitive advantage and creating the technological support needed to continue providing secure, reliable, and state-of-the-art telecom services in line with the latest trends and user expectations. Alongside upgrades, the company is also expanding coverage and boosting capacity to ensure the best possible user experience.
With accelerated upgrades in 2023 and 2024, the operator expects that nearly 1,000 of over 1,500 base stations will be upgraded. They have increased the capacity of the entire mobile network by more than 30%, and the 5G network capacity by threefold.

The modernisation and expansion of the 5G network have been underway intensively since last year, following the completion of the first phase. We are now in the second phase, the biggest in Telekom Slovenije’s history, where we are intensively upgrading the core, transport, and radio access networks; 5G is now available even in towns with fewer than 1,000 residents, in tourist areas, and along the motorway network. This expansion of 5G coverage is the result of the work of over 200 experts who ensure the superior quality of our network every day. In the final phase, we will enhance coverage with a focus on signal quality, and data transfer speeds will be even higher. We will also completely renovate the core network.

We continuously expand, upgrade, and update our network with the latest technologies, optimising frequency spectrum usage and energy consumption. Recently, we have restructured and upgraded the core network, enhanced and optimised the access network, and upgraded the back-end equipment, along with further improving connections to base stations. Our network is fully prepared across all levels for the continued rollout of the most advanced 5G technologies. This makes it possible for us to provide users with even more secure, reliable, and faster mobile internet with a low latency.
