A fibre broadband company offering gigabit-level speeds has further expanded in Bolton.
Grain Connect offers speeds of up to 1,000 megabits per second, or one gigabit – a speed nearly 14 times higher than the 2023 median UK average of 73.21 Mbps.
The company installs "Fibre to the Premises" – meaning a fibre connection is taken directly to the homes of customers.
Some other providers deliver their broadband using "Fibre to the Cabinet" – where fibre cables connect the telephone exchange to the roadside cabinet. But copper telephone lines deliver the broadband from the cabinet to the home – leading to a degradation in speed.
Now, the company has expanded to offer its internet to even more homes in the Haslam Park area of Bolton – and it promises not to use telegraph poles on its network.
According to Thinkbroadband’s coverage map, most of Grain’s Bolton coverage is currently concentrated around Deane and Daubhill.
A Grain spokesperson said: “We are pleased to bring our full fibre broadband service to Bolton, adding even more homes to the thousands we already service in the town with fast, reliable and great value broadband.
“We are proud to offer the UK a better choice for broadband, and the expansion in Bolton is part of our plan to roll out our own broadband network across the country, with more than 230,000 homes ready for service today.
“We pride ourselves on offering customers their own Full Fibre service which is not shared with neighbours, a price match guarantee, and a promise of no in-contract price rises.
“We can also reassure residents that we will never use a telegraph pole on our network – an issue which is blighting other towns and cities in the region.”
