RTL Group to bundle streaming technology at Bedrock

RTL Group is unifying the technology behind its streaming platforms in several European countries and is cutting jobs in Germany as a consequence.

German streaming service RTL+ is expected to migrate its technical platform to the solution provided by French technology company Bedrock at the beginning of 2026, reports German news agency dpa, citing an internal RTL statement.

Bedrock is a joint venture between RTL Group and French commercial broadcaster M6, in which RTL is the major shareholder. The move is intended to help RTL’s German streaming business become profitable and also save costs, according to the internal statement.

RTL Deutschland had previously used a platform developed in-house for RTL+. The Bedrock solution is already employed at RTL Group’s streaming services in France (M6+), the Netherlands (Videoland) and Hungary (RTL+).

RTL emphasises that the plans are subject to talks with works councils as the move is associated with staff reductions in Germany. No details were given on the scale of the job cuts.

Bedrock is to be given a German subsidiary based in Cologne where RTL Deutschland has its headquarters. Part of the current RTL+ technical team will work there in future. RTL Deutschland is also to become a shareholder in Bedrock.
