Oman sees rise in mobile phone subscriptions and usage in early 2024

Mobile phone subscriptions in Oman have increased by 3.10% to over 7 million in 2024 as of April, compared to the same period last year, according to the Telecommunications Regulatory Authority.

Key Highlights:

  • Mobile Phone Subscriptions: Increased by 3.10% to over 7 million.
  • Average Usage per Mobile Subscription: Rose by 4.19% in the first four months of the year.

Broadband and Fixed-Line Services:

  • Mobile Broadband Subscriptions: Decreased by 1.41%.
  • Average Usage per Mobile Broadband Subscription: Fell by 7.60%.
  • Fixed-Line Subscriptions: Increased by 3.03% to 596,809.
  • Average Usage per Fixed-Line Subscription: Decreased by 11.16%.
  • Fixed Broadband Subscriptions: Increased by 1.86%.
  • Average Usage per Fixed Broadband Subscription: Decreased by 0.68%.

International Call Statistics:

  • Total International Call Minutes: Increased by 6.03%.
  • Average Revenue per Minute for International Calls (Mobile): Decreased by 7.76%.
  • Average Revenue per Minute for International Calls (Fixed): Fell by 10.32%.

Despite the rise in mobile phone subscriptions and average usage, there has been a noticeable decline in mobile broadband subscriptions and average usage per subscription. Fixed-line and fixed broadband services saw modest growth in subscriptions, though average usage per subscription for these services decreased.

The increase in international call minutes indicates a growing need for international communication, though revenue per minute for these calls has decreased.
