Tunisia to launch 5G by November 2024

The Tunisian government views 5G as a catalyst for accelerating the digital transformation across various sectors of the economy, including agriculture, education, and transport. The executive has set the launch date for ultra-broadband in the country by November 2024.

Tunisia will leverage South Korea’s expertise for the deployment of 5G, as part of a partnership memorandum of understanding signed between Nizar Ben Neji, Tunisian Minister of Communication Technologies, and his South Korean counterpart, Lee Jong Ho. The agreement was signed during the Global ICT Leaders Forum held in Seoul, alongside the first Korea-Africa Summit from June 4 to June 5.

This memorandum of understanding follows the recent unveiling of Tunisia’s roadmap for 5G deployment. According to the roadmap, the granting of licenses and the commercial launch of ultra-broadband are scheduled for September and November 2024, respectively. Some Tunisian telecom operators have already tested the latest generation mobile technology.

The introduction of 5G aligns with Tunisia’s “National Digital Transformation Strategy 2025,” which aims to accelerate the digitalization of the administration, secure the national cyberspace, guarantee digital sovereignty, and establish a climate of digital trust essential for the realization of digitalization projects.

Ultra-high speed will particularly facilitate the use of smart homes, smart cities, e-learning, e-government, 3D video, telemedicine, virtual reality and augmented reality, streaming, artificial intelligence, and the Internet of Things (IoT).
