Fifth submarine cable to be installed by 2033

To meet Bangladesh's growing bandwidth needs, the fourth underwater cable will be installed by 2028, followed by the fifth in 2033.

Due to the internet's availability, its user base has grown from four million in 2008 to over 12.9 million as of the end of January. Throughout, Bangladesh's internet density climbed to 75.12%, up from 2.7% in 2008.

Finance Minister Abul Hassan Mahmood Ali said this while presenting the budget in Parliament recently.

He said, that as a result of achieving the goal of Digital Bangladesh, 2 million youths have been employed in the IT sector in the last 15 years. By reducing the cost of the Internet the government helped to expand web-based employment and business opportunities.

In 2008, the minimum price of fixed internet bandwidth per Mbps was Tk27,000, now it is only Tk60, he added.
