The Ministry of Transport, Communications and Information Technology (MTCIT), in association with Arabian Research Bureau, will host COMEX Global Technology Show from May 27 to 30 at Oman Exhibition and Convention Centre. The 33rd edition of the event is set to highlight the sultanate’s advancements in digital technology and economy.
H E Dr Ali bin Amer al Shidhani, Undersecretary for Communications and Information Technology at MTCIT, emphasised the exhibition’s role as a digital investment hub. “The ministry aims for the exhibition to further the objectives of the National Digital Economy Programme,” he stated.
The show will feature over 100 emerging Omani companies specialising in technical products, solutions and digital services. These participants are supported by various entities including the Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Water Resources, the Authority for Small and Medium Enterprises Development (ASMED), Omantel, ITHCA Group, and Central Bank of Oman.
Alongside the technology show, MTCIT will also hold the Second Digital Government Forum, which will serve as a venue to share best practices in digital transformation and facilitate the exchange of digital experiences and modern technologies on both regional and global levels.
H E Shidhani noted that COMEX is a comprehensive platform, bringing together government entities, private sector firms and technology enthusiasts. “The exhibition not only showcases the latest electronic services and digital products but also offers a venue for marketing and investment opportunities, where commercial partnerships can be established,” he explained.
He underscored ongoing efforts to enhance the digital economy by developing legislative and regulatory frameworks, promoting digital investments and supporting technological innovation.
H E Shidhani also highlighted recent developments in attracting foreign investment into Oman’s technology sector, with initiatives spanning data centres, artificial intelligence, space technology and semiconductor manufacturing.
These advancements, including successful testing of the sultanate’s first electronic chips – Oman 1 and Oman 2 – are significant strides in Oman’s commitment to establishing a robust digital economy.
