Malaysia’s communications watchdog opened a public consultation to review its licensing process and refocus how payment for licences will be made.
The Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) stated that it is open for suggested changes to current legislations until April 30 when it will close its consultation.
The MCMC stated its current system for payments demand licence holders to pay an annual initial fee on the first anniversary of the issuance of licences, and then annually after, it explains this as a post-paid approach.
The regulator wants to switch to a prepaid method that requires licence holders to pay the initial annual fee at the beginning of when a licence is valid, this will apply for new and renewed licences.
The commission noted that other markets that adopted this approach see less outstanding fee cases, compared to Malaysia’s current system.
