PLDT’s first hyperscale data centre on track to go live in July

PLDT’s enterprise subsidiary ePLDT announced that the planned 50MW hyperscale data centre being built by its data centre unit Vitro is on track to go live as early as this July.

The Vitro Sta Rosa (VSR) data centre is a purpose-built 50MW hyperscale facility designed to be Rated 3-Certified and Rated 4-Ready. According to ePLDT, VSR will not only be its first hyperscale data centre, but the first in the Philippines.

ePLDT says the data centre, which is located on a 5-hectare property in Sta. Rosa, Laguna, is outfitted with three fibre routes to ensure network diversity, resilience, and carrier neutrality.

To that end, Vitro has partnered with telcos and ISPs such as Radius, Eastern Communications and Infinivan (not to mention parent company PLDT) to strengthen its diverse telco ecosystem within VSR before launch. ePLDT said more telco and carrier partnerships are set to be announced in the coming weeks.

ePLDT said that VSR’s dedicated Meralco switching station is scheduled to be energized by April 2024. That will ensure that power availability and redundancy is already available to clients who plan to start deploying their equipment in VSR as early as June, clearing the way for a July launch.

“With the launch of VSR, we hope to be able to able to attract more investment from our hyperscale partners while at the same time serve the country’s growing need for data center services from both the private and public sector,” said ePLDT and Vitro president and CEO Victor S. Genuino. “We have a great opportunity to position the Philippines as the next transit and hyperscaler hub in Asia.”

VSR will be Vitro’s 11th data centre in the Philippines. ePLDT has already earmarked US$600 million to build a 12th data centre with a capacity of 100MW. Vitro chief commercial officer Gary F. Ignacio said the company has built over 30,000 sqm of colocation space across major business districts in the Philippines.

“It’s the largest local data center footprint readily available to serve the dynamic needs of the rapidly growing local and global hyperscalers market,” he said.
