        AT&T Launches 5G in Mexico

AT&T has announced that it has activated 5G technology
in Mexico. The cellco says it will expand its 5G coverage
on a gradual basis, starting with industrial and urban
areas, while continuing to operate its 3G and 4G networks.
Nicole Rodriguez, Vice President and CTO at AT&T Mexico,
commented: ‘In the next three years we will deploy 5G
in the main markets of the country, starting with the
most important cities.’ 5G access is initially available via
the Honor 50 smartphone; AT&T notes that the first 50
handsets were connected to its network on 8 December.
While the official press release is lacking in specifics, local
press reports have indicated that AT&T is using spectrum
in the 2.5GHz band to deliver coverage to the Cuauhtemoc
and the Napoles districts of Mexico City.
