K-Electric to upgrade wireless network

Pakistan's K-Electric (KEL) is upgrading its wireless network infrastructure with InfiNet Wireless’ point-to-point (PTP) solutions.

The new InfiNet network will span KEL’s 130 points of presence (PoPs) across 6,500 square kilometers of industrial, commercial, agricultural and residential areas.

Also, the network will allow all KEL employees and contractors (over 3,200 endpoints) to communicate internally, access all internal and external customer records, execute workflows such as SAP ISU based billing improve quality of service to their 22 million customers in Karachi and the adjacent suburbs.

“Going into the RFP process, at the top of our priority list was the need for the new solution to not only meet our high-bandwidth requirements but as importantly, be robust and reliable, particularly in harsh conditions within the city limits where wireless interference is a major problem,” said Abdul Rasheed of InfiNet.

“During our proof of concept phase, the InfiLINK 2x2 solution proposed by Netsat (InfiNet’s partner in Pakistan) consistently met our bandwidth and capacity requirements without any degradation in performance,” he said.

Another differentiating factor was InfiNet’s “pay-as-you-grow” software upgradeable capacity feature, which made the solution extremely cost-effective, especially when the initial allocated budget was limited.

All the InfiNet solutions available today provide a high degree of scalability to cater for increasingly unpredictable application traffic loads, while still meeting strict performance and QoS expectations.

Even the smallest of the InfiNet Wireless units provide a native capability to increase its capacity and performance as future needs change, something that can be achieved via a license upgrade.
