HGC signs IPX peering deal with Telenor

Hot on the heels of announcing a partnership with OTEGLOBE, Hutchison Global Communications (HGC) has further expanded its connectivity to Europe through a new IPX peering agreement with Telenor.

HGC and Telenor have signed an agreement to interconnect their respective IPX networks with the aim of extending the reach they can offer mobile operators served by the companies.

Mobile end users will be able to roam seamlessly across the two IPX platforms. Operators, multinational corporations and consumer customers served by the two companies will be provided an integrated experience in terms of signaling, data, VoIPX and VoLTE roaming and HD video calling.

“European MNOs are facing a surge in traffic volume after the ‘Roam like at Home’ initiative goes live in June, when EU-based travellers will no longer have to pay roaming tariffs anywhere in the EU,” commented Andrew Kwok, president of international and carrier business at HGC parent Hutchison Telecommunications Hong Kong Holdings.

“HGC’s peering arrangement with Telenor is an enormous first stride in enabling MNOs served by us to provide service in a more cost-effective way, while making sufficient capacity available, so end users benefit from high-quality and seamless roaming. Hutch IPX also allows exchange of traffic made up of content and applications, and ensures Application-to-Person (A2P) messages reach mobile users.”

HGC recently also announced a tie-up with Greece's OTEGLOBE covering the provision of a joint Asia-Europe wholesale connectivity solution, leveraging the operators' respective international networks and the new AAE-1 subsea cable.
