Thuraya partners Niflink for telemedicine and e-learning

Thuraya Telecommunications Company, the mobile satellite services subsidiary of the UAE’s satellite solutions provider Yahsat, is partnering with data compression specialist Niflink to provide customisable telemedicine and e-learning solutions across its network using Niflink’s video compression technology.

Niflink says its mission is to connect communities to critical data, by innovating in the fields of data compression, transfer and storage for partner organisations.

In this case, Niflink’s telemedicine solution will be optimised and certified to work across the Thuraya network in the regions in which Thuraya operates.

The solution is tailored to enable large-scale remote education and healthcare projects in remote and rural areas. This is made possible by embedded video compression technology, that ensures the efficient transmission of multimedia content through Thuraya’s satellite network, covering 80% of the world across the Middle East, Africa, Asia and Australia.

Niflink says its adaptability makes it a powerful tool across various use case scenarios, including video conferencing, national level e-learning initiatives and medical services for remote and challenging environments.

Niflink says its telemedicine solutions can be customised to address different use cases such as emergency mobile medical cases, crew health services in maritime environments, disaster response and real-time point of treatment between a battlefield and a doctor.

Niflink adds that its compression framework provides unparalleled quality over narrow links and does not require powerful hardware or intermediate infrastructure.
