Huawei launches "Pioneer Club" for North Africa's digital transformation

landmark collaboration between Huawei and African operators established the “Northern Africa Digital Intelligence Transformation Pioneer Club,” signaling the dawn of a new era of regional digital transformation.

This club was established on the sidelines of the Northern Africa Operations Transformation Forum (OTF) 2024 during Mobile World Congress (MWC) 2024 in Barcelona hosted by Huawei.

MWC Barcelona 2024, held from February 26 to 29, showcased Huawei’s latest products and solutions.

With the 2024 launch of 5.5G, Huawei is collaborating globally with operators and partners to drive innovation in networks, cloud, and intelligence, fostering a thriving industry ecosystem and paving the way for a new era of intelligent digital transformation.

Themed “Embracing the New Era of Digital Intelligence Transformation,” the forum brought together over 100 delegates from government, operators, industry organizations, and analysts across Northern Africa.

Discussions focused on the critical role of digital intelligence transformation in unlocking new operational models and driving service growth for telecommunications carriers in the region.

Keynote speakers provided valuable insights on the importance and direction of digital transformation.

Bruce Xun, President of Huawei Global Technical Service Department, emphasized the potential of “Telecom+AI” to accelerate this process by combining existing telecom expertise with digital capabilities and artificial intelligence to create new operational models and tangible business value.

On his part, Tim Banham, Chief Commercial Officer of TM Forum, shared a 2023 survey finding that 73% of carriers identify “customer experience and operational efficiency” as key drivers of their transformation efforts.

Banham also introduced the concept of “new technologies + new services + new models = new growth,” offering a valuable framework for regional carriers.

Said Aragwa, Chief Marketing Officer of Ethio Telecom, shared his company’s successful journey in driving national digital transformation and development.

The company started with digital payment services, promoted cloud adoption across various industries, built a national digital ecosystem, and ultimately became a key enabler of the country’s digital transformation.

Terry He, President of Huawei Northern Africa reaffirmed Huawei’s commitment to the region. He highlighted the company’s 25-year history of serving the Northern African telecom market, upholding the vision of “In Africa, for Africa” and prioritizing customer business success.

The president reiterated Huawei’s willingness to collaborate with regional partners to embrace the new era of digital intelligence transformation in Africa.
