Bedrock to develop new streaming platform for M6

French commercial broadcaster M6 has announced plans to develop a new €100m streaming platform.

The RTL-owned network said it would work with its subsidiary Bedrock, which has developed a number of similar platforms, for broadcasters including Videoland in the Netherlands and RTL Play in Belgium.

M6 is promising a series of additional investments in content, technology, distribution and marketing between 2024 and 2028 with the objective of doubling the Group’s streaming revenues as well as the number of hours viewed on the platform by 2028.

It would be a replacement for the 6play platform in much the same way as TF1 has turned MYTF1 into TF1+ in a strategy being adopted by many of Europe’s commercial broadcasters.

6play broke records in 2023, skewing young, with a third of 6play users under 35 years old, and making it the youngest platform on the market. It is also the leader in terms of viewing time per user amongst the under 35s, who spend 53 minutes on 6play per day6.

Streaming accounts for 518.2m hours viewed, representing 5.5% of total hours consumed on the Group’s networks.
