Zambia upgrades towers North of the country to 3G, 4G

Zambia has begun upgrading communication towers in the north of the country to 3G and 4G networks.

The project has begun in Muchinga province, which borders Malawi and Tanzania, as part of the government's effort to phase out 2G towers.

Approximately 87 towers will be refurbished during an exercise that resumed on Friday.

It would provide some residents with their first opportunity to use mobile internet and social media networks, according to the governmenm.

Felix Mutati, the Minister of science and technology, stated that the modifications were part of the government's commitment to digital transformation, with the goal of connecting every Zambian to a reliable communication network.

"Improved communication will be able to spur economic growth through convenient business transactions," Mutati said.

Mutati stated that the upgrade was intended to improve speed and internet access, which will boost production in the business, health, agriculture, and mining sectors in this portion of the Southern African country.

"The improvement will significantly contribute to the province's economic growth by enabling entrepreneurs to reach the new market via online platforms".
