Venezuela’s state-backed telco CANTV is targeting fibre coverage of between 50% and 60% by end-2024. Speaking on the Al Aire programme on Venezolana de Television, company president Jesus Aldana noted that CANTV expects to deploy between 250,000 and 300,000 ‘optical points’ this year, as part of its copper-to-fibre transition.
In addition, residents of certain border towns in Bolivar State can expect to see improved connectivity this year as a result of unspecified ‘alliances with international companies’. Bolivar State borders both Brazil and Guyana and the towns that can expect to see improvements were named as El Callao, Las Claritas, Tumeremo and Santa Elena de Uairen.
