Maxis and TM extend and expand broadband partnership to 2029

Malaysian operator Maxis announced that it has extended its existing agreement to lease Telekom Malaysia’s high-speed broadband (HSBB) access services to 2029.

According to a filing from Maxis with Bursa Malaysia, the deal was signed by Maxis’ broadband unit, Maxis Broadband, and TM subsidiary TM Technology Services (TMT).

Maxis has been using TM’s broadband access network since 2010. That agreement was extended in 2019. The latest deal, which modifies the 2019 agreement, not only extends the duration, but also gives Maxis access to enhanced features and functionalities in TM’s premium HSSB service.

Maxis said the extended partnership will help it expand the reach of its high-speed internet connectivity to even more premises nationwide, complementing its own fibre network, which currently covers over 700,000 homes and businesses.

The access to TM’s premium HSBB service also enables Maxis to offer one-stop connectivity and digital solutions offerings for enterprise customers.

“The partnership in conjunction with our own extensive fibre network and core mobile business allows us to deploy our resources more efficiently and effectively so we are able to place greater focus on customer experience,” said Maxis CEO Goh Seow Eng in a statement.

The partnership cuts both ways. Earlier this year, TM and Maxis signed an infrastructure-sharing deal under which TM secured access to Maxis’ 4G multi operator core network (MOCN) and domestic 2G and 4G roaming services to expand its 4G coverage nationwide.
