Dialog Axiata streamlines SIM-to-eSIM conversion for users

Sri Lankan telco Dialog Axiata said that it has introduced a service to make it easy for customers to transition from traditional SIM cards to eSIMs.

The service only works for customers with eSIM-compatible Android or iOS devices, which means the first step for customers is to go to Dialog Axiata’s website to see if their device supports an eSIM.

If it does, customers will be able to upgrade to an eSIM facility or purchase a new eSIM with a new connection number either via the website or the the MyDialog mobile app. Once they’re verified via an OTP, they can then enter their email address to receive QR verification and a guide document, after which they can follow the instructions to conclude the transition.

The operator claims its SIM-to-eSIM conversion facility is a first for Sri Lanka. Rival operators Hutch Lanka and SLT-Mobitel also support eSIMs, but existing customers who want to switch to eSIM have to visit designated stores or offices to do so.

Dialog Axiata said it added the eSIM conversion facility in light of the fact that more eSIM-compatible devices are entering the Sri Lankan market.

The operator has been promoting eSIM as a useful technology upgrade for consumers. Apart from eliminating the need for a physical SIM card, eSIMs also makes tracing a lost or stolen device easier, as the SIM cannot be removed and discharged from the phone.

Dialog Axiata added that eSIMs enable dual-SIM capability on the latest iPhone models.
