400,000 more Australian premises added to NBN fiber programme

Australian wholesale network operator NBN Co announced the addition of 400,000 more homes and businesses to its national fibre broadband upgrade programme, with these premises becoming eligible for full fiber services by 2025, encompassing additional suburbs across the country. The expansion means that three million premises are now within the footprint of the NBN direct fibre upgrade programme, with the company’s press release adding that a total of more than ten million Australian premises will be able to order its fastest residential fixed internet plan by the end of 2025.

Commenting on the ever-rising data demand driving the fibre rollouts, NBN said: ‘The average Australian home now has more than 21 connected devices. We encourage customers to check with their internet provider to see if their plan has enough speed and data inclusions.’ Australians can check if their residence or office can get full fibre by going to nbn.com.au/FullFibre.

The release also noted: ‘An extra 57,248 kilometres of fibre was rolled out across the country this year as part of NBN’s fibre upgrades currently underway – that’s enough fibre to span from Sydney to New York and back almost twice.’
