Claro Peru inaugurates major data centre in Lima

Recently, Claro Peru inaugurated what it calls the most modern Tier III data centre in the country to meet the growing demand from the country’s companies and public entities to bring many of their processes, virtual infrastructure, processing and storage capacity to the cloud.

The new data centre is said to represent the first stage of an investment of more than US$50 million. This includes the implementation of a 250 square metre IT room with a capacity of 104 cabinets which are equipped with state-of-the-art hardware and software, in order to achieve better energy efficiency and high availability according to international standards.

This project will not only integrate Claro's communications network in Peru, but also joins the global network of data centres operated by América Móvil, which allows it to offer customers high standards and connectivity capabilities for IT services.

The data centre has a renewable energy certificate for energy consumption with Luz del Sur, a Peruvian electric power distributor.

The inauguration of the data centre was attended by the Minister of Transportation and Communication, Raul Perez Reyes, as well as companies involved in the project including Grupo Carso, Huawei and Equans.

This isn’t the only data centre activity in Lima in recent months. In October Peruvian technology services company Canvia inaugurated its third data centre, a US$6 million facility in the San Isidro area of the capital.
