Hrvatski Telekom (HT) says it is starting preparations for the phased shutdown of its 3G network, with the process to be completed by early 2025. Customers with older handsets are being advised to upgrade to models which support 4G and/or 5G technology, although the firm adds that its 2G network will remain in service to support voice calls on older devices. Boris Drilo, Chief Technical and Information Technology Officer (CTIO) at HT, commented: ‘The retirement of 3G technology will allow us to use frequency resources for 4G and 5G technologies, resulting in improved service for users.’
TeleGeography’s GlobalComms Database notes that HT is the largest of Croatia’s three mobile network operators (MNOs), claiming around 41% of subscriptions, ahead of A1 with 40% and Telemach with 19%.
