Veon’s Ukrainian subsidiary Kyivstar announced it will partner with Amazon Web Services (AWS) to support businesses in Ukraine with cloud infrastructure and related services.
Under a Memorandum of Cooperation signed on Monday, Kyivstar will serve as an AWS Partner providing its business customers with various AWS services, such as migrating infrastructure to AWS, solutions for data processing and analysis, reporting, and modelling, and enhanced security measures.
Andrzej Horawa, Central and Eastern European enterprise leader at AWS, said Kyivstar's expertise in AWS products, data science, cybersecurity and analytics would allow the company to help existing and potential business clients diversify and minimize potential business risks.
“Kyivstar serves more than half of the B2B market in Ukraine and have put a tremendous effort to supporting its business customers over the course of the war,” said Kyivstar president Oleksandr Komarov. “Our partnership with Amazon Web Services is a significant step for the development of Ukrainian business and its integration into the international environment.”
Veon CEO Kaan Terzioglu said the AWS deal also illustrates its long-term commitment to Ukraine despite the ongoing invasion by Russian forces that began in February 2022.
“Now is the time to invest in the rebuilding of the country and we are delighted that Amazon will be our partner in this collaboration through its partnership with Kyivstar,” he said. “This is an important milestone in our pledge to build a stronger Ukraine when we committed to investing $600 million over the next three years.”
As part of the agreement, Kyivstar and AWS will also look to cooperate on other initiatives, including a potential transition of Kyivstar's data management platform to AWS.
Kyivstar is the largest telco in Ukraine with 24.3 million mobile subscribers and over 1.1 million home internet subscribers.
