Raxio’s Addis Ababa data centre is officially launched

There’s been more telecoms news from Ethiopia this week, but this time it doesn’t involve mobile networks. Raxio Data Centres, a provider of carrier-neutral data centres across Africa, has announced the official launch of its newest facility in Addis Ababa.

Raxio says the Tier III-certified, state-of-the-art data centre will address the quickly evolving needs of a vibrant business environment and public sector for dependable, always-on IT solutions.

The facility offers secure colocation space for up to 800 racks delivering up to 3MW of IT power, providing a robust, fully redundant environment for housing mission-critical IT infrastructure with 24/7 availability. It is also equipped with cutting-edge technologies that both ensure maximum operational effectiveness and also deliver environmental efficiencies.

As a carrier-neutral data centre, Raxio Ethiopia is expected to become one of Ethiopia’s hubs of connectivity, creating an ecosystem where local and international carriers will be able to interconnect and exchange traffic, in an ideally suited and purpose-built environment.

The launch of Raxio’s data centre in Ethiopia is, says the company, in full alignment with the Ministry of Innovation and Technology (MInT)’s Digital Ethiopia 2025 initiative and the ministry’s core priorities, in particular by contributing to ICT infrastructure, job creation and information security.

Raxio Ethiopia is the first of several facilities the company plans to open in the next few months. Robert Mullins, CEO of Raxio Group, says: “After our launch in Uganda two years ago, Raxio Ethiopia is the first in a series of facilities we will be opening between now and the end of the first half of 2024, with our facilities in Mozambique, Ivory Coast and DRC next in line.”
