The Mayor’s Office of Cali has announced that state-backed telco Empresas Municipales de Cali (EMCALI) is on course to cover 93% of Cali with fibre-to-the-home (FTTH) infrastructure by end-2023.
However, when factoring in the nearby cities of Jamundi and Yumbo – where EMCALI also offers fibre connectivity – the fibre penetration figure is reduced to 70%. The announcement notes that the telco has invested COP100 billion (USD24.5 million) in its fibre-optic deployments over the last four years.
