Telecom Namibia signs core network deal with Huawei

Telecom Namibia (TN) has signed a NAD100 million (USD5.3 million) agreement with Huawei for the delivery of a fixed-mobile convergence (FMC) core network. The operator explained FMC removes the distinction between fixed and mobile telecommunications networks, providing a superior customer experience by creating seamless services using a combination of fixed broadband and local access wireless technologies, enabling it to meet customer needs in homes, offices and on the go. TN also hopes to provide innovative services and grow its market share by blending broadband services and content.

Speaking at the signing ceremony last Friday, TN CEO Stanley Shanapinda said the operator is excited about the opportunities the system presents: ‘Telecom is confident that the successful implementation of the fixed-mobile convergence network will accelerate our digital transformation efforts, enabling us to provide cutting-edge telecommunications solutions that meet the evolving needs of businesses and consumers in Namibia.’ The investment highlights the company’s commitment to remaining at the forefront of technological advancements, he added.

As previously reported by TeleGeography’s CommsUpdate, TN outlined plans in July 2022 to invest more than NAD2.3 billion over five years to modernise its networks and accelerate the company’s digital transformation.
