STT GDC adds Johor to its growing list of data centre sites

ST Telemedia Global Data Centres (STT GDC) has revealed plans to develop a second data centre campus in Malaysia – this one in Johor – just one week after announcing the first one.

The second STT data centre campus will be built on over 22 acres of land in Nusa Cemerlang Industrial Park in Iskandar Puteri, Johor. STT Johor is planned to deliver up to 120 megawatts of IT power supplied through diverse substations in close proximity to the new campus.

With Johor sitting just 15km from Singapore, the new data centre will have access to telecom links that enable it to not only serve local requirements, but also connect to STT Singapore 5, its regional interconnection hub.

Last week, STT GDC announced its entry into the Malaysian market via a new joint venture with Basis Bay. Under that deal, STT GDC and Basis Bay will build and operate two data centre campuses – one in Cyberjaya and the other in Kuala Lumpur.

“Our expansion into Johor is a natural step forward as we deliver vital digital infrastructure services that not only meet the surging and ever-evolving demands of our customers for complex design and scalability, but also anticipate future needs, particularly high-performance computing workloads for AI and visual computing,” said Lionel Yeo, STT GDC’s CEO for Southeast Asia.

STT GDC has spent much of this year expanding its footprint across Southeast Asia into markets including Indonesia and the Philippines.

Pending final regulatory approval, construction of the first building in Johor supporting 16MW in IT load will commence in the coming months and is expected to be completed by 2025.
