CelcomDigi and DHL unveil 5G/AI-powered inventory management

Malaysian operator CelcomDigi has teamed with DHL Supply Chain Malaysia to launch what is billed as Malaysia’s first autonomous inventory management system to be powered by both 5G and artificial intelligence (AI).

DHL’s Integrated Logistics Centre in Shah Alam now leverages 5G and AI solutions for its robotic inventory management system, which provides enhanced and efficient multi-story warehouse management.

DHL is using autonomous drones to carry out daily inventory management and operational tasks with automated stock-taking solutions and computer vision technologies independently. DHL says this not only eliminates human error, but also enables efficient stock counting operations, achieving up to 20 times efficiency with up to 100% precision and accuracy.

The solution also enhances space utilisation within the warehouse and reduces daily electricity consumption, DHL says.

The collaboration – which was delivered via CelcomDigi’s newly set up Innovation Centre –is a pivotal initiative to unlock synergies between different industries, delivering elevated logistic operations within an AI-driven digital ecosystem, said CelcomDigi CEO Datuk Idham Nawawi.

“As two different industries embrace innovation and digital transformation through productivity and cutting-edge digital solutions, we are reimagining warehouse logistics with an improved efficiency of daily operations,” he said.

Idham added that CelcomDigi and DHL will evaluate the implementation of 5G-powered AI autonomous drones and robotic inventory management systems to all DHL warehouses nationwide.

Malaysian Minister of Communications and Digital, YB Fahmi Fadzil, officiated the launch of the autonomous inventory management system, which is being touted as an example of how different industries can collaborate to advance Malaysia’s ambitions as a digital economy and innovation hotbed.

“Aligned with the government’s digital aspiration, Malaysia has the potential to be the Asian Digital Tiger as collaborations such as today’s will potentially expand and significantly enhance the efficiency, innovation, technology adoption in Malaysian enterprises and the nation’s digital economy," he said at the launch, according to The Edge Malaysia.
