Safaricom upgrades cloud services with help from VMware

Kenyan operator Safaricom has announced an upgrade to its local cloud computing platform and cloud services suite.

These new cloud services, hosted in data centres located in Nairobi and Kisumu, are built on technologies from VMware, a leading provider of multi-cloud services for all apps. Local news resource techweez says the new cloud suite will enable customers to manage their applications with flexibility.

Now clients will be able to allocate cloud computing resources through a unified interface, to purchase cloud computing capacity in bulk and to tailor their computing environment to align with specific business application needs.

Safaricom’s cloud services offer enterprise clients the agility to expand their operations. Businesses are able to conduct their operations from anywhere, ensuring high availability and better service delivery to their end customers.

Currently, says techweez, Safaricom offers software as a service (SAAS) and infrastructure as a service (IAAS). It also provides secure hosting for business applications and offers connectivity and integration with payment systems for enterprises that rely on cloud-hosted applications.

Of course this is far from the only time VMware has worked with Safaricom. The most notable example may have been in early 2022 when VMware announced (at MWC) that it had been selected by Safaricom Ethiopia as its telco cloud platform partner.
