Slovak Telekom to begin 3G shutdown on 3 October

Slovak Telekom (ST) is to begin the phased shutdown of its 3G network on 3 October, switching off services in the districts of Zlate Moravce and Zarnovica ahead of a gradual region-by-region closure. The full shutdown is expected to be completed by the end of the year. The spectrum freed by the network closure will be used to improve the operator’s 4G and 5G services.

Rival operator Orange is planning to keep its 3G network fully operational until 31 December, with its own phased switch-off to take place early next year, Zive.sk reports. The other Slovak 3G provider, O2, has not published its plans for a shutdown. The country’s fourth cellco SWAN (4ka) does not have a 3G network.
