Tele2 Latvia 5G network reaches 63% territorial coverage

Latvian cellco Tele2 has announced that coverage of its 5G network has now reached 63% of the country’s territory. The company’s 5G base stations use a combination of 700MHz and 3500MHz spectrum, with Tele2 noting that the former provides wide coverage, suitable for less-populated areas, whilst the latter – capable of delivering download speeds of up to 1Gbps – is more suitable for urban environments. Tele2 claims to be installing 5G sites at a rate of around one per day.

Commenting on take up and usage of the network, Tele2’s technical director was quoted as saying that the cellco has seen a 150% increase in mobile data traffic on its 5G network since the start of the year. The official went on to add: ‘Our mobile communications network currently has more than 120,000 devices that support 5G technology’.
