Deutsche Glasfaser and NetCologne conclude fiber-optic cooperation

German telecoms operators Deutsche Glasfaser and NetCologne have concluded the open access fibre-optic network cooperation agreement that was first announced back in May. Under the agreement, Deutsche Glasfaser will provide NetCologne with access to its fibre-to-the-home (FTTH) infrastructure around Cologne and Aachen for a period of at least six years. From summer 2024, residents in Deutsche Glasfaser coverage areas in the Rhein-Erft district, the Rheinisch-Bergisch district and in the region around Aachen (via NetAachen) will be able to access fibre-optic services from NetCologne.

‘With our modern fibre-optic network, we already supply three out of four households in Cologne with future-proof fibre-optics,’ commented Timo von Lepel, Managing Director of NetCologne, adding: ‘We are continuing to expand our own network in Cologne and the region, but at the same time we are also relying on open access cooperation and using our partners’ existing fibre-optic networks. Thanks to the collaboration with Deutsche Glasfaser, we will be able to offer the best technology to even more people in our region from summer 2024.’
