Local mobile production rises in July

Mobile phone manufacturing in Bangladeh had increased in July, marking a rise of 833,000 units compared with that in the previous month.

In July, the total production of mobile phones in the country reached 2.32 million units, a jump from the 1.49 million units recorded in June 2023, according to data released by the Bangladesh Telecommunication Regulatory Commission.

Of the 2.32 million units manufactured in July, 1.73 million units featured 2G technology, while 592,000 units were equipped with 4G technology, and 5,000 units were 5G technology-enabled.

The 2nd generation phones, also known as feature phones, dominated the production, accounting for 74.48% of the total units manufactured in July, while smartphones constituted 25.52%.

Comparatively, of the 1.49 million units manufactured in June, 849,000 units were equipped with 2G technology, 639,000 units featured 4G technology and 150 units had 5G capability.

In June, feature phones held 57.03% of the total production, while smartphones constituted 42.97%.

Since April, there has been a consistent increase in feature phone manufacturing.

In April, feature phones accounted for 54.67% of production, rising to 56.52% in May and 57.03% in June.

According to the BTRC data, there has been no production of 3G mobile phones since January 2023.
