FabTech mobile lab spreads awareness in AI, 3D printing

Salalah witnessed the opening of the FabTech mobile laboratory, a collaborative project organised by InnoTech and the Authority for Small and Medium Enterprises Development, funded by BP Oman.

This initiative is aimed at fostering the culture of industrialisation, and promoting artificial intelligence, and the technologies integral to the Fourth Industrial Revolution.

Located at Nawafeth Park in Salalah, the laboratory will remain operational until the end of August. It provides a wide range of educational opportunities in programming, electronics, design, and 3D printing. These fields are central to the development and understanding of the ongoing industrial revolution.

The laboratory is not merely a technological exhibition but an educational initiative containing all necessary tools for modern manufacturing. It has been designed to enrich the scientific knowledge of the participants, develop their technical skills, and prepare them for the requirements of a rapidly evolving era.

The target demographic for the laboratory is broad, aiming to engage school and university students between the ages of 10 and 20. It also invites those who possess a keen interest in learning about the technologies that underpin the Fourth Industrial Revolution.

“The idea of the laboratory comes to educate students and inspire those interested in the fields of manufacturing and the industrial revolution,” the organizers explained. They emphasized that the facility would enable students to transform their ideas into projects using the manufacturing techniques and engineering design principles available in the laboratory.

Additionally, the laboratory offers insights into the capabilities of 3D printing within various manufacturing domains, a field that continues to shape the modern industrial landscape.

The inauguration was graced by the presence of Dr. Mohammed bin Said al Shashai, Director General of the Directorate General of Information in Dhofar Governorate, along with several other officials.

InnoTech is an Omani company providing prototyping and manufacturing services. It also provides services like 3D mechanical design, 3D printing and virtual reality development.
