Telekom Deutschland, the domestic fixed and mobile unit of Deutsche Telekom (DT), expanded the capacity and coverage of its mobile network at a total of 798 locations nationwide in the last four weeks. The firm rolled out 183 new sites using 4G and 5G frequencies and increased capacity at 615 existing LTE and 5G network sites. Telekom reports that more than 95% of the population are now covered by 5G services, with around 9,700 antennas in over 750 cities transmitting in the 3.7GHz band, supporting speeds of up to 1Gbps. By 2025 5G coverage will be increased to 99%.
‘We are increasing the pace of mobile communications expansion,’ said Abdu Mudesir, Managing Director of Technology at Telekom Deutschland, adding: ‘More than 95% of the population can already use 5G from Telekom, and by 2025 we will reach 99% of the population. We provide Germany with a nationwide and sustainable network to make Germany fit for the digital future.’
