CelcomDigi completes network consolidation in east Malaysia

As part of its ongoing modernisation programme, CelcomDigi announced the consolidation of two clusters of networks in east Malaysia.

In a statement, the Malaysian operator detailed the network clusters were in Tuaran and Menggatal – where 50 further Celcom and Digi network sites have been consolidated taking the total number of sites to 108, across the two locations. Customers located in Tuaran and Menggatal should experience improved download throughput, higher data capacity and wider LTE coverage.

The newly merged operator also recently started its full-scale programme to modernise its 4G network with the latest LTE and 5G-ready technologies. It is, it claimed, one of the largest network deployments in Malaysia encompassing 18,000 sites, following Celcom and Digi’s merger in December 2022.

In total CelcomDigi completed integration work in 19 network clusters across regions in central, northern, southern, and eastern Malaysia. Completion of its modernisation and integration programme will result in improving coverage from 96% to 98% in populated areas.

The company revealed in its Q1 results plans to reinvest 15% to 18% of total revenue in capex to support the upgrade programme and support existing networks.
