ENet enhances services to challenge rivals

Challenger Guyanese operator ENet has launched a range of new mobile services unlimited data, calls and text on its 4G/5G network nationwide to compete against its large-scale rivals.

ENet began business as a fibre ISP and expanded into mobile in 2020 when it gained its telecoms licence as the Guyanese market privatised the telecoms sector in the same year.

The operator now offers unlimited talk, text and data plans on its VoLTE network, a first for an MNO in Guyana, claimed ENet CEO Vishok Persaud. Mavenir was the main partner for this project.

Speaking to Developing Telecoms, Persaud said this move is another step ENet's strategy to become a “full service” operator with plans to launch fixed voice services to cater to expanding industries in Guyana.

“This year we're going to introduce our fixed voice service as well on our fibre, which is something that we didn't have before. We're also expanding [our network] as Guyana is quite a large country,” said Persaud.

“We have the largest fibre backbone in the country and one of the key points for our success is to ensure that we connect all our sites with fibre so that customer experience can be consistent. That is the focus for growth – to refine the product as much as we can.”

Guyana has 10 regions and ENet is currently connecting its seventh region to its fibre network with coverage blanketing 750,00 people. The rest of its coverage will stem from 4G/5G, as it chases near 100% coverage, said Persaud.

The chief executive said the operator has had tens of thousands of subscribers since its commercial launch in May this year.

The company had also built its own subsea cables to support its network and boasts to be the only local operator to compete against GTT+ and Digicel.

Mavenir senior regional VP Antonio Correa added: “ENet and Mavenir share a common vision of enabling software-based automated networks of the future. ENet was able to build on its successes in fixed wireless and fibre optic to create and launch Guyana’s first 4G and 5G networks. This is a significant milestone for Guyana, and we are proud to be part of this achievement.”
