FabTech mobile lab to nurture technological skills in students

The National Museum, through its Learning Centre in collaboration with Innotech, is hosting the ‘FabTech’ mobile laboratory camp from July 9 to July 27.

The camp is designed for school students aged 10 to 16 and aims to equip them with diverse skills in manufacturing, programming, electronics, 3D printing, and other technologies related to the fourth industrial revolution.

Through workshops and hands-on projects, students will develop problem-solving abilities, foster teamwork, expand scientific knowledge, and prepare for the demands of the modern era.

Amina al Abri, Head of the Learning Centre Department, expressed the significance of hosting the camp within the comprehensive educational activities planned at the National Museum’s Learning Centre. Building upon the success of last year’s laboratory, this year’s camp targets a broader audience, with approximately 180 male and female students already registered for the event.

Mohammed al Kindi, a trainer in the FabTech laboratory, highlighted the resources available in the mobile laboratory. Equipped with a specialised 3D printer, innovation boxes, programming kits, and various tools, students can bring their ideas to life and create realistic models.

The laboratory also includes a mini-laboratory that simulates real-world factories, emphasising safety measures and introducing students to electrical circuits and basic electricity concepts.

The FabTech laboratory stands as Oman’s first mobile manufacturing laboratory of its kind. It serves as an educational initiative to promote manufacturing culture and fourth industrial revolution technologies, including programming, electronics, design, and 3D printing. The laboratory is made possible through Innotech’s Social Investment Programme in collaboration with BP Oman.

By providing students with practical experiences and exposure to cutting-edge technologies, the FabTech mobile laboratory camp fosters innovation, creativity, and technological literacy among young learners, empowering them for a future driven by technological advancements.
