Telefónica partners with ARME to create a mobile robotics tech hub

Telefónica Tech has partnered with the Spanish Mobile Robotics Association (ARME) to create a hub that will allow technology and industrial firms to research, innovate and co-create solutions.

The hub – located in Telefónica’s IoT and big data applied technology laboratory, The Thinx – will operate as an international meeting point to generate and share knowledge

According to the partners, it will allow businesses to carry out robotic simulations in real conditions in this space prior to their implementation.

To this end, both Telefónica Tech and ARME – made up of robotics companies with at least 51% Spanish capital – will combine technologies linked to communications, robots, navigation and localisation, and software.

The idea, according to Telefónica, is that the international hub will promote learning and employment in the tech field whilst also meeting the needs of future consumers of robotic solutions and promoting environmental sustainability.

It is also expected to “boost” the establishment of international mobile robotics companies in Spain.

Elena Lizasoain, global director of product and business operations for IoT and Big Data at Telefónica Tech, said: “The creation of this mobile robotics hub will allow us to share knowledge and expand our capabilities in this field to develop the most innovative robotic solutions in demand in the market that help companies to digitally transform and gain in efficiency.”

ARME’s president Javier Miguélez added that the hub as a “key step” towards Spain’s leadership in the world of mobile robotics. “The hub will generate more and better technological developments in our country. It will also attract foreign companies, promoting employment in a key sector for our future,” he said.
