Tele2 Russia has launched a ‘4G Turbo’ option for smartphone users, which it says can increase the speed of mobile internet by up to 50%, claiming that this makes the service ‘comparable to the capabilities of a 5G network’. The cellco explains that the new functionality is based on ‘an intelligent system’ which ‘monitors the load on the base stations’ to enable the maximum possible mobile internet connection speed to be ‘allocated to the subscriber with the [4G Turbo] option’.
The new feature is being offered free-of-charge for up to one month when first activated by a user, but will subsequently cost RUB150 (USD1.87) per month unless subscribing to a ‘Premium’ tariff which includes the option as default for free.
Andrey Borzov, Director for Strategic Development of the Tele2 Product Portfolio, declared: ‘We took care of customers who need maximum speed. Mobile internet consumption is growing every year: subscribers communicate more in instant messengers, watch videos and download heavy content on their smartphones. Speed is becoming more and more important to them. Following this trend, we are developing network infrastructure and developing profitable offers. The new option will allow you to use the smartphone at full capacity at speeds comparable to 5G.’
