Enel launches fixed broadband in Italy

Italian utility firm Enel Energia has launched fixed broadband services, offering discounts for customers who also use its electricity and/or gas services. As previously reported by CommsUpdate, in December Enel acquired ISP Melita Italia, which offered fibre-based services over the wholesale network of Open Fiber.

Unlike Melita, which only marketed fibre-to-the-home (FTTH) connectivity with download speeds up to 1Gbps, Enel is also targeting households outside Open Fiber’s FTTH footprint, providing peak download rates of 200Mbps or 100Mbps, depending on location. Customers are offered access at the highest download rate available to them for EUR24.90 a month, with a EUR2 discount given to Enel Energia customers.
