Nkom calls for feedback on 1500MHz, 26GHz spectrum allocation process

Norway’s National Communications Authority (Nasjonal kommunikasjonsmyndighet, Nkom) has announced that it is preparing to allocate spectrum in the 1500MHz (1427MHz-157MHz) and 26GHz (24250MHz-27500MHz) bands and has called for input on its initial assessments.

As previously reported by TeleGeography’s CommsUpdate, in September 2022 Nkom confirmed its intention to allocate 1500MHz and 26GHz frequencies for 5G use, saying it expected to offer the spectrum in 2023. In line with those plans, the watchdog has now presented its initial assessments of the two frequency bands in question, which it said would form the basis for further work on the design of the overall framework for spectrum allocation.

According to Nkom, it wants to give market participants the opportunity to provide input early in the allocation process and as such has called for submissions on the matter by a deadline of 12 May 2023. Looking ahead, the regulator has said it plans to present the overall framework for consultation during the third quarter of 2023.
