Globe Telecom is reportedly planning to make inroads into the pre-paid fibre-to-the-home (FTTH) market, with CEO Ernest Cu noting that the post-paid segment is ‘nearing saturation, if not already saturated’. Bloomberg quotes the official as pointing out that Globe wants to fully utilise its fibre network and sees pay-as-you-go fibre products as the way to do so. Cu plans to launch a pre-pay FTTH service in the second quarter of this year while simultaneously expanding the reach of the company’s community-based Wi-Fi service that is already available to more than ‘600 hosts’ across the Philippines.
