LG U+ offers customer support chat service for foreigners

LG U+ is now providing a customer support chat service for foreigners, the telecom company said Tuesday.

The chat service supports four languages: English, Russian, Chinese and Vietnamese. The service is provided by native-speaking chat support agents from Russia, China and Vietnam.

LG U+ is targeting the increasing foreign population with the latest service, as the number of foreigners visiting Korea reached 460,000 in January from 90,000 during the same period in the previous year.

During the test operation over the past two months, more than 1,000 chat queries were made, according to the company.

Before the chat service was made available, foreign customers had to visit offline LG U+ branches or use a call center dedicated to foreigners, which often required long waiting times.

“We plan to team up with other service providers outside the telecommunications sector, such as visa renewal or plane ticket booking services which are essential for foreigners staying in Korea, to offer an integrated service,” said Kim Yoo-jin, head of global telecom service business at LG U+.
