Telekom fiber-optic network reaches 700,000km

Telekom Deutschland (TD), the domestic operating unit of Deutsche Telekom (DT), says it increased fixed broadband speeds for an additional 140,000 households in January 2023. The firm revealed that 36 million homes can access maximum data rates of up to 100Mbps and the number of 250Mbps-enabled lines has reached 29 million nationwide. In addition, TD states that the total number of households passed by its fibre-to-the-home (FTTH) network rose by 35,000 in January, to 5.4 million, enabling maximum speeds of up to 1Gbps, with the company revealing that the length of its nationwide fibre-optic network has now reached 700,000km.

‘We provide Germany with a fast and sustainable network,’ said Abdu Mudesir, Managing Director of Technology at TD, adding: ‘Our infrastructure brings people together and opens up new perspectives, both professionally and privately. In doing so, we are making an important contribution to leading society into a modern, digital future.’
