SLT-Mobiltel seeks regulator’s approval to launch 1Gbps fibre plans

State-backed Sri Lanka Telecom (SLT-Mobitel) is looking to boost its top-speed fibre broadband plans from 200Mbps to 1Gbps and to that end has referred its new range of tariffs to the regulator, the Telecommunication Regulatory Commission of Sri Lanka (TRCSL), for approval.

In its filing, SLT-Mobitel noted that customers wishing to take the new service will be required to pay LKR16,500 (USD45) per month for ‘Package 1’ which includes either a 500GB quota plus unlimited YouTube usage, or 40GB per day, plus a one-time installation fee of LKR20,000 (reduced to LKR15,000 if the user is upgrading an existing service). The company is also offering two more plans: ‘Package 2’ costs LKR40,000 and again is available in two options (including unlimited voice calls facility, different data caps and unlimited entertainment); and ‘Package 3’, which costs LKR75,000 for a larger download cap.
